Collectors note this original has a two paeg hand written letter attached to the backside which states in part. Here is the original re-creation of my first published superman drawing from the cover of n. Y. World's fair 1940. In the 50 years since i left comics i have only done about half a dozen re-creations and have consistently refused any offers and commissions, doing them only for people who i thought deserved them because of their contributions to the history of comics, like joe desseris, jerry bails, and craig delich. This letter is signed ot gary who could only be cary coddington who personally built the first great superman collection during the 1960's and 1970's. This original was originally sold in sotheby's 4th comic book and comic art auction as lot #440 on june 18th, 1994 in new york, along with the original joe shuster 1934 superman daily which sold for $76,000.00 in a private sale after the auction.
